At Mereton Textiles, we offer laser fabric cutting as a service – and in this blog post, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about it.
What is laser fabric cutting?
Laser fabric cutting is a process that uses a laser to cut through materials such as fabric. It is commonly used when you require specific and precise shapes such as garment pattern pieces cut from your fabric.
Traditionally, a fabric cutting room would use electric rotary blades to cut the individual placement patterns out which can be very time consuming or they can also choose to cut through multiple layers of the same patterns over and over again to make up speed.
With laser fabric cutting the patterns are digitally mapped out and then once the fabric is loaded into the machine, the lasers get busy and follow their mapped route.

What are the advantages of laser fabric cutting?
The advantage of laser cutting over traditional methods is that it is more precise and can create more intricate designs. In addition, the heat from the laser helps to seal the edges of the material, preventing fraying while handling. Plus of course, the strain it takes cutting the same patterns over and over again is removed as the machine does all the work for you.
